Our biggest project is an event the team created at its inception -- an annual event called "Day in the Park—Maxwell Park." It is a day that brings people together from neighboring parts of Oakland and furthers our goal of community building. Several years ago, we created a Facebook page where visitors to the page can read about the event and see the wonderful photography that epitomizes the event: www.facebook.com/MaxwellParkCBNAT
"Day in the Park" takes place the 2nd Saturday of September each year. And, although it began as a neighborhood event, it has become well known throughout our city. In 2015, we marked the 10th anniversary celebration of the event and had the honor of a visit by Congresswoman Barbara Lee who presented us with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for Maxwell Park's Day in the Park.
"Day in the Park" is made possible only through generous donations and through our dedicated volunteers. Surrounding neighborhoods, local businesses, OPD, OFD, our City Council member, our Mayor, and many others come to take part each year. It is a family event and there are lots of wonderful children's activities including free bike repair, face painting, and art projects to keep the kids occupied! There is a live music stage with great music and other entertainment provided by local bands, and talented neighbors. Local food vendors serve delicious food and there are also many local vendors with arts and crafts, and lots more.
Each year we strive to make the event bigger and better than the year before and, to that end, it continues to grow and flourish. Most important is that this event brings our community and surrounding communities together and provides a perfect opportunity for us to get to know each other and exchange ideas. Our goal is to help build a greater sense of community and embrace our diversity.
Consider joining us in our effort to expand on community building and to grow the neighborhood to the best it can be!
